Oregon Hill is an inner-city neighborhood in Richmond, VA, that was the landscape of my childhood. Everything a kid could need growing up in the 50s was within about six blocks of home, which was convenient since we didn’t have a car until I was eleven. Pine Street Baptist Church was just a block away if you cut through the alley. My parents were active there, and their influence, plus the church’s influence plus the impression of the Holy Spirit on my life, led me to know Jesus as my Savior as a child. Later, as a young man, I came to know Jesus as my Lord, the Leader in my life. Now, a half-century later, He still leads, and I still follow.
