Reading: Psalm 46-48
QUESTIONS
- Notice the turbulent imagery in Psalm 46:2-3. Try to visualize this. How does the psalmist develop this in verse 6? Like the psalmist, express your confidence to God even if you face similar circumstances.
- Psalm 47 is loud. What makes this so appropriate? How is this at least one good expression of reverence in worship?
- Psalm 48 extols the great “city of our God,” in which God is present “as a fortress.” How has God made himself known and present as our refuge, especially in Christ Jesus? Praise him for this.
DEVOTION
Dear God,
You are our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble (46.1). We need not fear because you are always near. You never leave us or forsake us.
Your power, O God, is evident and great! You have power over the elements(46.1-3), You have power over warring nations (46.8-9), and all the kings of earth belong to you, God (47.9b). You, God, are our fortress (46.11).
We shout to you O God, with joyful praise!(47.1) For you are awesome, you are King over all the earth(47.2&7). Great are you God, and most worthy are You of praise!(48.1)
You are our Defender, O God(48.3) and You will keep us safe forever(48.8).
O God, we praise you for your unfailing love(48.9). As your Name deserves, O God, you will be praised to the ends of the earth, for your faithfulness and justice(48.10-11).
You are our God forever and ever!(48.14)
Hallelujah and Amen!
